  YAFP

Young American Footballers of Plymouth (YAFP) is a group which offers children and young people aged 19 and under who live in Plymouth the opportunity to play American Football and participate in Cheerleading.

YAFP aims to overcome the barriers identified by its members as being key factors in preventing other children and young people participating in American Football and Cheerleading; namely financial costs.

YAFP aims to promote the ways in which American Football and Cheerleading can help young people as identified by its members.  These include: developing skills such as teamwork and leadership; enhancing self-discipline; boosting self-confidence and encouraging self-value.

If YAFP is able to provide the necessary kit and equipment required for training sessions and for  games and competitions, the financial constraints that prevent many children and young people from deprived areas participating are removed.  Young people will not need to purchase their own equipment in order to take part.

More young people will be able to experience the benefits that American Football and Cheerleading can provide, such as: improving fitness, co-ordination and stamina; developing self-confidence and self-worth by working as part of a team; meeting new people and making new friends, and enhancing skills such as self-discipline and responsibility that can be applied to other aspects of their lives.

Through offering young people a chance to participate in these extracurricular activities and develop their sense of empowerment, it is hoped that they will be less likely to become involved in crime and anti-social behaviour as they have a constructive way of channelling their energy and aggression.
