  American Football Explained

American Football can seem confusing, but you only need to understand a few of the basics to really enjoy the sport.

There are 2 main ways to understand American Football:

1) Read about the game, such as on the NFL EUROPE Website

2) COME ALONG AND JOIN IN!!! All of the teams in Devon are always looking for recruits, and will welcome people wanting to try out the game and make sense of all those rules and regulations. Even if you’ve never even watched a game before, the teams will love to have you. Get involved now.

Details

The Plymouth Admirals senior team (ages 18+) has been playing for over 20 years, making it one of the longest established teams in the country.
With previous conference championships and appearances in Bowl finals, it boasts a long history of nurturing players into successful teams.

The Plymouth Admirals Youth team (ages 8-17) was originally formed as the Plymouth Commodores in 1990. They presently have 2 teams for both kitted and non-contact versions of the sport, both coached by the clubs Youth Development Officer. The Youth team draws players from as far away as Redruth and Fowey.

The North Devon Dogs are based in Barnstaple and travel regularly to tournaments all over the country. They play a form of the sport known as ‘Flag Football’ where there are 5 players on each team and contact is minimal, meaning that no helmets or shoulder pads are needed.

The Plymouth Blitz is the team from the University of Plymouth. They play against other Universities, and are open to students aged 18+ and on HND courses or higher
